Jag skrev i ett tidigare inlägg om Myspace-fenomenet Arctic Monkeys och att de blev stora på grund av detta tidsenliga fenomen – men jag skrev inte hur, eller snarare varför de blev så stora. Det viskades om vår tids The Clash om att The Libertines 2.0 hade ”uppfunnits” – om man nu kan slänga sig med det uttrycket. Faktum är att Arctic Monkeys fyllde ett tomrum i den brittiska musikscenen som hade växt sig större och större. Att folk redan hade hört hälften av alla deras låtar redan innan debutalbumet Whatever people say I am, That’s what I am not släpptes spelade mindre roll.

Den välkända tidningen NME skrev en oerhört träffande och smickarande textrad om den här låten; The Britishness of The Kinks, the melodic nous of The Beatles, the sneer of Sex Pistols, the wit of The Smiths, the groove of The Stone Roses, the anthems of Oasis, the clatter of The Libertines… Och visst är vi beredda att hålla med om att det låter som allt man vill att det ska låta som. Det är en låt med en attityd som är typiska för punkrock-band men med en kaxighet som hör internet-eran till.
